Join the regatta for alumni of the top business schools!

The ABCup Regatta is now well into its third decade.

A bit of history ...

It was in 1992, that 8 pioneering crews gathered in Port La Forêt (Brittany). The regatta then moved to La Trinité sur mer where it stayed until 1997.

LBS and Crandfield alumni then took us to the Solent for three regattas on the Sunsail fleet. In 2000, the alumni from Bocconi were mandated to find warmer waters for the ABCup, this was Rimini. Following a gap year in 2001, the ABCup went back to France (La Rochelle, Brest). Bocconi then arranged a splendid regatta in Trieste onboard Solaris 36 (spectacular racing machines). In 2005 and 2006, we sailed around the secluded islands of Les Embiez and Porquerolles on the French Riviera. We tried Caiscais (Portugal) in 2007, cruised/raced in splendid Croatia in 2008 before returning to France (Port Camargue and La Ciotat/Cassis) in 2009 and 2010.

Our italian friends from MIP concluded these two decades with an amazing invitation to sail and race in Venice, the legendary Serenissima. The ABCup started its 3rd decade with a return to its origin i.e. Brittany (2012). The regatta had never been to Marseille, this was done in 2013 under a demanding 30 knots mistral which blew during most of the 4 days and made for some spectacular images and memorable racing. 2014 in Les Embiez (south of France) also brought some tonic weather conditions.

The 23rd edition, in Le Havre (Normandy) was, for the 1st time sailed on J80s, one of the most exciting one design series around the world.

The last 3 editions (2016, 2017 and 2019) in St Petersburg, Sestri Levante and Capri were definitely attuned to our tradition of visiting legendary places.

The 2023 edition, for the first time, took the Regatta to Germany in Kiel, one of the hot spots of German sport boats racing and a famous Olympic venue.

The 2024 edition was going to take place in ALICANTE (Spain) under the stewardship of a joint LBS/IE team. Unfortunately this had to be cancelled in view of challenging logistics.

We therefore have to be patient and look forward to enjoying in 2025  the competitive DNA of the event whilst the traditional onshore contests and parties ensure that the ABCup Motto 'Friendship Glory and Fun" is more relevant than ever.
